The Final Fantasy Resonance Demo: What Is In It and What Carries Over

The Final Fantasy Resonance demo has been free on all five platforms since September 3, 2026, and it is generous: the entire first chapter, exactly as it appears in the full game, with party members capped at level 15 and visions at level 5. Your save transfers to the full release on October 22.

A free demo for Final Fantasy Resonance has been live since September 3, 2026 on all five platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. It was announced and released the same day during a PlayStation State of Play broadcast, and it is a separate free listing on each storefront, not a locked slice of the full product.

What the demo includes

The demo contains the entire first chapter, exactly as it appears in the full game. That is the official description on the Steam page, and it means real story, real dungeons and the systems around them, not a bespoke vertical slice. The chapter follows Rain and Lasswell from the airship prologue through the Earth Shrine and the opening of the journey; our story page covers what happens without spoiling past it.

The playable party is Rain, Lasswell and Fina, the three leads. Press previews from September also show the fourth hero Lid joining during the demo stretch; her exact joining point differs between summaries, so treat the three named leads as the confirmed core and Lid as joining early.

Level caps in the demo

WhatCapNote
Party member level15Applies to each character
Vision level5Applies to each equipped vision

The caps exist to keep demo saves from trivialising the early full game, but they are also why your carried-over party does not arrive overlevelled. The visions system page explains what a vision is if the term is new.

The five visions you can try

The demo ships five equippable visions:

That mix is the pitch of the whole system in miniature: legends from mainline Final Fantasy fighting beside characters native to the Brave Exvius world. The full game promises 26 visions in total.

How save transfer works

Everything you do in the demo saves normally, and the demo save carries over into the full game at release. Progress, items and levels (up to the caps) come with you. Two practical notes:

  1. The transfer is to the same platform. There is no cross-save between platforms, and on Nintendo specifically the Switch and Switch 2 versions are separate games with separate saves; our platforms page explains that trap in full.
  2. Carryover requires the full game on the same account and storefront as the demo.

How to download on each platform

The demo is a separate free listing on each storefront. Search for, or link directly to, "FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE DEMO" (that is the exact listing name) on the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store including Xbox on PC, the Nintendo eShop for either Switch version, and "FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE DEMO" on Steam where it has its own app page.

FAQ

Does the Final Fantasy Resonance demo carry over to the full game?

Yes. Save data from the demo transfers to the full game at launch, on the same platform and account. Levels above the demo caps do not exist to carry.

Is the demo free?

Yes, completely free on all five platforms. There is no time limit and no purchase gate.

What is the level cap in the demo?

Party members cap at level 15 and visions cap at level 5.

How long is the demo?

It is the entire first chapter of the full game. Exact playtime depends on how much side exploration you do; the chapter includes multiple dungeons and optional areas.

Can I keep playing the demo after October 22?

Nothing published says the demo is removed at launch. If that changes, this page updates.
